  • Hi I'm Lily, often referred to as "The Hive Girl."

I started volunteering at the Boise Hive when I was 14. I was a troubled teen and I was very depressed; which is a horrible mix. I found the Boise Hive, and the next week I was setting up concerts and running a P.A. sound system. A couple of weeks later I was playing shows by myself!

I've made made many friends here at the Hive. The Boise Hive literally saved me from myself. The Boise Hive gave me a sense of purpose, and a sense of belonging. Five years later I am the Board of Directors Secretary, which is really an honor.

Outside of the Boise Hive, I am a Pre-K teacher and a musician. I study Early Childhood Development and Elementary Education at College of Western Idaho. I play the soprano and bass clarinet, Alto, Tenor, and Bari Sax, Piano/Keys, Bass, and have my own solo acoustic project. I hope to teach music to children some day, because I know how it important it is not only to development, but for mental well-being as well.

  • Greg oversees introduction and execution of programs at the Hive. He has authored federal and state grants for the Hive to provide music outreach to veterans and to realize our Creative Culture Beats program and led execution of a successful grant from the City of Boise to initiate a collaborative music experiment, bringing broadcast technology to the Hive and extending existing ‘Live at the Hive’ concerts featuring local musical artists to a worldwide internet live streamed audience.

Greg has been a Boise Hiver since 1981, when his band, the Commonauts, recorded in Studio 2 - then known as ‘Custom Recording’. Between then and now, Greg spent his time figuring out how to make things fly and keep them flying in the air and in space (sometimes called engineering) and co-authored international test engineering standards. Greg co-founded Foresight Technologies, bringing some of the first sampled instruments to home computer music workstations before digital audio workstations were a thing. Greg has been a lifelong musician, writing scores for retail stores and documentary films and continues to write quirky themes for Boise Hive projects.

WELLNESS LEAD

  • I joined the Boise Hive in May of 2022 as their Executive Operations Manager. As a Boise native, I have enjoyed watching the local music scene grow and thrive. When I am not at work, you’re likely to see me out and about at any number of musical events, from local shows to arena tours. I am a mass consumer of live music.

I had become familiar with the Hive through my (now) husband. He is a local drummer and plays and practices at the Hive regularly. By going to live shows, both at the Hive and other venues, I became good friends with so many in the music community. I knew immediately that I wanted to find a space where I could give back and support people that I had become friends with over the years.

Mental health advocacy is a huge part of my life, I enjoy breaking the stigma around mental health services. My own mental health took a drastic hit during COVID-19. I was depressed and took a hiatus from working in order to focus on my own mental health. Early in 2022, I saw a posting for an Operations Manager at the Boise Hive, and it felt like a great opportunity to balance the things that I am passionate about (music and mental health advocacy) and the skills that I possess.

While overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Hive, I have been able to see the direct impact the Hive has had on musicians that might be struggling. I have been able to witness the Hive thrive and grow their programs to increase the number of people we are able to reach. It is truly the best job that I have ever had! Since joining the Hive, I have watched new programs be developed and our mental health team grow. I am excited about where the Hive is currently, but more excited to see where we go from here!

 PARKING & FACILITY GUIDELINES

  • Be mindful of your sound levels in the parking lot — we have neighbors

  • No alcohol or drugs are permitted on the premises.

    • We have a zero tolerance for drugs and alcohol at The Hive.

    • We are an all-ages venue offering a safe and sober environment for all musicians, and our insurance policy simply does not allow it (along with the State of Idaho). Please respect our position on this issue so we continue to offer an awesome place for you to come and play music.

  • Vaping and smoking must be done outside and away from the front doors. Please take care of The Hive and dispose of your butts properly.

    • Vaping sets off our fire alarm. We know that sounds extreme, but we want the safest possible space and if there’s ever an instance where electronics begin smoldering, we need the alarms to be sensitive enough to detect this early.

  • Only water is permitted in the practice spaces. Food and other beverages may be consumed in the community room.

  • Cancellation must be made 24 hours in advance or musician must pay 1/2 of reserved time.

  • Parking spaces are limited at The Hive, so please consider ride sharing. There is street parking but do not block our neighbor’s driveways!

  • We strive to be a green and clean The Hive! Please love this space and recycle.
